What comes to mind when you hear Africa? An endless sea of golden dunes? Or dusty valleys? Rugged mountains perhaps? And rocks as far as the eye can see. Maybe arid plains and oases that offer relief from the scorching heat? Yeah, something along those lines.

But turns out that’s only the Saharan part. What about the Sub-saharan one? Well. That’s a whole nother story. And this is that story.

We are two guys from a small country in the northeast of Europe. Latvia. For us anything Africa is as exotic as it gets. My name is Arvids and I have been to some places on a motorcycle, mostly around Europe. And then there’s Martins. Latvian TET linesman. With 140 countries and quarter of a million kilometers under his belt, he’s the most well-travelled fella among us. Yet, it turns out there are still some countries he hasn’t been to. A reason enough to embark on yet another round the world tour.  And I’ve been invited to join. Even if just for a little part of it.

Armed with two Husqvarna Nordens and the new Adventure Spec Mongolia hot weather riding gear we went on a mission. To ride through Africa’s Equatorial belt. To test the gear. To test ourselves. 3 weeks. 8 countries. Ghana. Togo. Benin. Nigeria. Cameroon. Congo. DRC. Angola. An extension to our summer in the lush Sub-saharan Africa just as the rainy season withdraws and makes it an easy job.

Hold that thought.
